Climate in the News:
Below is gauge information for a river in eastern Arkansas. Major flooding occurred in the first week of April due to multiple days of heavy rain. Thankfully, the flood stage is back down to minor flooding. However, forecasted rainfall upstream will likely bring values back into major flooding territory by Wednesday.

Weather Synopsis:
As displayed on the surface analysis below, a strong cold front moved though the Region at the beginning of last week. This front cooled down temperatures to start off the work week.

Temperature:
Overall, April is when the Region starts to see consistently warmer temperatures. However, regular cold fronts are still common, bringing both rain chances and below-normal temperatures for a few days.

Alongside Sunday's cold front, another cold front swept through the Region later in the week. This resulted in comfortable spring-like days. Weekly temperatures hovered below normal for much of the Region, except for the Texas/Oklahoma Panhandles. Weekly average temperatures were as much as 12 degrees below normal in much of Tennessee. Overall, weekly average temperatures hovered around 55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit for much of the Region, several degrees cooler than last week.
Precipitation:
With the majority of the Region being in a humid subtropical climate, rainfall is common at any point of the year. During the spring months, storm systems are common throughout the South. During April severe storm probabilities are at their highest in Oklahoma and Northeast Texas.

Precipitation totals were confided to the eastern part of the Region as the first strong cold front moved through and kicked off some thunderstorms with it. Sunny skies and stable conditions were in place for the rest of the week, resulting in no observed precipitation.
