U.S Drought Monitor for the Southern Climate Region, Valid August 1st

U.S Drought Monitor Class Change Map for Southern Climate Region, Valid August 1st

With abnormally dry conditions across the entire climate region last week, there was no room for any improvements in drought conditions. Texas faced the largest above-average temperatures last week, and consequently, some one-class degradations were seen in areas across the state. One-class degradation was also observed in a large portion of southern Louisiana. However, the majority of the region experienced no change in drought conditions.

Looking into the future, as outlined by the 8-14 Probabilistic Hazards Outlook, large portions of Texas and central Louisiana are at "rapid onset drought risk" as the threat for excessive heat in the upcoming days in those areas is classified as “moderate”.
