U.S Drought Monitor Class Change Map for Southern Climate Region, Valid June 27th

With excessive heat continuing to plague much of the region these past few weeks it is no surprise to see drought conditions worsening. Unlike two weeks ago, the heat was not accompanied by any particularly wet conditions as the majority of the region was drier than normal last week. A one class degradation was identified in many areas across the region, such as North Texas, South Texas, Northeast Oklahoma, and Central Louisiana. Looking into the future, outlined by the 8-14 Probabilistic Hazards Outlook, large portions of Texas and Louisiana are in a “rapid onset drought risk”.
