U.S Drought Monitor for the Southern Climate Region, Valid November 7th

U.S Drought Monitor Class Change Map for Southern Climate Region, Valid November 7th

While temperatures were well below normal for the entirety of the region last week, precipitation accumulations were relatively moderate where they occurred. Areas that did see rain due to a cold front passing through were Central Texas, North-Central Texas, Eastern Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Due to this drought improvements were very limited this week, with only a few small areas in Texas seeing any one-class improvements. But, a lack of precipitation in Mississippi and Tennessee, did lead to widespread one class degradations in the two states. Overall drought conditions remained relatively the same across the region but expansion of exceptional drought (D4) was seen in Louisiana and Mississippi, from 34% of Mississippi on October 31st, to 44% on November 7th.

Looking into the future, as outlined by the U.S Seasonal Drought Outlook, throughout November the majority of the region can expect drought conditions to persist, except Central Texas as the Climate Prediction Center's monthly outlook for November outlines above-normal temperatures and normal to below-normal precipitation for the region.
