U.S Drought Monitor Class Change Map for Southern Climate Region, Valid October 3rd

Dryline-initiated thunderstorms brought with them showers in the Texas Panhandle, which resulted in some one-class improvements concentrated in that region. Even reading to complete drought removal in some Pandlandle counties. Unfortunately, though, much of the climate region was abnormally dry last week, leading to developing and worsening drought conditions in several states. Central Arkansas, Northern Mississippi, and Tennessee all experienced widespread one-class degradations last week, leading to 87% of the climate region now experiencing varying degrees of drought.

Looking into the future, as outlined by the U.S Seasonal Drought Outlook, throughout fall the southern region can expect drought to improve in some areas, and in others complete removal, as in the Texas Panhandle.
